Creation deletion of Logical Partition and extended

1) List the Partition Table<\/p>\n

[root@localhost ~]# fdisk -l <\/p>\n

2) Create Extended Partition on the New disk \/dev\/sdb<\/p>\n

fdisk \/dev\/sdb <\/p>\n

[root@localhost ~]# fdisk \/dev\/sdb
\nDevice contains neither a valid DOS partition table, nor Sun, SGI or OSF disklabel
\nBuilding a new DOS disklabel with disk identifier 0xca3de5fc.
\nChanges will remain in memory only, until you decide to write them.
\nAfter that, of course, the previous content won’t be recoverable.<\/p>\n

Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partition table 4 will be corrected by w(rite)<\/p>\n

WARNING: DOS-compatible mode is deprecated. It’s strongly recommended to
\n switch off the mode (command ‘c’) and change display units to

4) Delete the extended partition <\/p>\n

[root@localhost ~]# fdisk \/dev\/sdb<\/p>\n

5) Add Logical Partition on the Disk <\/p>\n

[root@localhost ~]# fdisk \/dev\/sdb<\/p>\n

6) Format New Logical partition as ext4 <\/p>\n

[root@localhost ~]# mkfs.ext4 \/dev\/sdb1<\/p>\n

mkdir \/backup<\/p>\n

[root@localhost ~]# mount \/dev\/sdb1 \/backup\/
\n[root@localhost ~]# df -TH
\nFilesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
\n\/dev\/mapper\/VolGroup-lv_root
\n ext4 52G 2.6G 47G 6% \/
\ntmpfs tmpfs 528M 0 528M 0% \/dev\/shm
\n\/dev\/sda1 ext4 508M 32M 450M 7% \/boot
\n\/dev\/mapper\/VolGroup-lv_home
\n ext4 54G 189M 51G 1% \/home
\n\/dev\/sdb1 ext4 106G 197M 101G 1% \/backup<\/p>\n

Add in the fstab so after reboot we can make the disk available<\/p>\n

\/dev\/sdb1 \/backup ext4 defaults 1 2<\/p>\n

7) Remove Logical partition <\/p>\n

umount \/backup\/<\/p>\n

remove form fstab <\/p>\n

root@localhost ~]# fdisk \/dev\/sdb<\/p>\n
