How to Configure NTP Server on Solaris 10:<\/p>\n

[Check NTP services:
\nbash-3.00# svcs ntp
\nSTATE STIME FMRI
\ndisabled 21:14:03 svc:\/network\/ntp:default
\nbash-3.00#<\/p>\n

NTP services still \u2018disabled\u2019, OK leave it disabled state, before enable NTP services, we need to create \/ edit ntp.conf.<\/p>\n

bash-3.00# cp \/etc\/inet\/ntp.server \/etc\/inet\/ntp.conf
\nbash-3.00# vi \/etc\/inet\/ntp.conf
\n[Find two lines:
\nserver 127.127.XType.0
\nfudge 127.127.XType.0 stratum 0<\/p>\n

Replace \u201cXType\u201d with your External Clock Device.the complete list are on ntp.conf file.<\/p>\n

Usually we use XType number 1, \u201cUndisciplined Local Clock\u201d. So the configuration become like this:<\/p>\n

server 127.127.1.0
\nfudge 127.127.1.0 stratum 0<\/p>\n

You can also syncing to an external NTP server:
\nGo to http:\/\/www.pool.ntp.org\/ for a list of public time servers:
\nchange `server 127.127.XType.0`
\nto `server time_server`<\/p>\n

[Exp for Indonesia pool zone:
\nserver 0.id.pool.ntp.org
\nserver 0.asia.pool.ntp.org
\nserver 2.asia.pool.ntp.org
\n[then ENABLE the NTP services:
\nbash-3.00# svcadm enable ntp
\nbash-3.00# svcs ntp
\nSTATE STIME FMRI
\nonline 21:38:44 svc:\/network\/ntp:default<\/p>\n

Now, your NTP server will broadcast its packet using UDP port 123 on Multicast network 224.0.0.1<\/p>\n

How to Configure NTP Client on Solaris 10:<\/p>\n

On client side, check ntp services, leave it in disabled state, we\u2019ll re-enable again later:<\/p>\n

[Copy ntp.client become ntp.conf file:
\nbash-3.00# cp \/etc\/inet\/ntp.client \/etc\/inet\/ntp.conf
\nThe default config is \u201cmulticastclient 224.0.1.1\u201d It mean your client passively waits for a ntp server to provide NTP packet to multicast network 224.0.1.1. If you want to sync your clock to a particular server, even though the clock is coming from the Internet or from the server\u2019s hardware clock then specify it as:<\/p>\n

Donf forget to remove\/comment the line \u201cmulticastclient 224.0.1.1\u201d<\/p>\n

[ENABLE the NTP services:
\nbash-3.00# svcadm enable ntp
\nbash-3.00# svcs ntp
\nSTATE STIME FMRI
\nonline 22:30:15 svc:\/network\/ntp:default<\/p>\n

Run \u201cntpq -p\u201d to check which NTP server you are using right now.<\/p>\n
